September 25, 2009 VIMY RIDGE NAMED AS POSSIBLE TWIN ARENA SITE
Vimy Ridge Academy has been named by Edmonton City Council as a possible site for a twin arena and fieldhouse. While it is still early in the process, the proposed arena would have a 500 seat arena on one side as well as a 250 seat arena on the other. The field house would have seating for 100, as well as a fitness centre, commercial space and dressing rooms. The site for the arena would be just west of the school where the school's track field is currently located. The track field and soccer facilities would be moved to the south where the metro continuing education school is at this time.
June 19, 2009 ONE MORE SCHOOL YEAR COMES TO AN ENDThe THP Triathlon is an awesome event that puts a year's worth of physical activity to the test, and a fun way to cap off the year. Thanks to everyone for all their support and hard work in making the event another huge success. From everyone at AAD, The Hockey Program, The Lacrosse Program, Sport Rec and BJJ, have a safe and relaxing summer. Always feel free to contact us regarding any interest in AAD programming, Dan Auchenberg at Donnan for grades 3-6, Ryan Marsh at Vimy for grades 7-12.
Jay Boumeester dropped into Vimy the other day to help his old man hand out some hardware. Thanks Jay!
June 5, 2009 2009 THP TRIATHALONThe AAD 5th Annual Dinner Silent Auction has come and gone, and it was another huge success! A sincere thanks goes out to all of our donors, parents, friends and family for your support with this year's event. One of our last experiences of the year is upon us, the 2009 THP Triathlon! The event runs from June 15th-19th, and includes students from grade 4 through grade 9 from hockey and sport rec. One of the most important aspects for the triathlon is the support you can give us, and that doesn't necessarily mean volunteering: 1. Gear: Every student-athlete requires, at the minimum: running attire and swimming attire (which can usually be the same thing, except the sneakers of course), inline skates and a helmet. All of these items need to be secure in a single bag, preferably zipped up as all the gear is placed in trucks for transport down to Mill Creek Pool from Donnan School. Loose skates don't work out very well, and we'd like to eliminate any sort of delays for our competitive athletes. 2. I'm praying to the sun-gods, but nothing short of Hurricane Auchenberg will halt the event. Encourage your athlete to dress accordingly. 3. Water is provided at several points on the course, so bottles or camel-backs or buckets are unnecessary. Thanks! Kelvin Cech BA

November 18th , 2008 The Sport Rec Program at Donnan school is off to a fantastic start. Students spent the first part of the year working on their team skills, participating in Lacrosse and Flag Football. During this time the group was fortunate enough to get some input from professional lacrosse player, Jordan Cornfield, from the Colorado Mammoth. Just prior to the October break, students challenged themselves with the fitness testing component, where many personal best performances were set. Currently, the Sport Rec group is participating in a Kayaking unit at Kinsmen pool. The students have learned basic paddling strokes, as well as, roll over recovery.
